Gem

In the village of Gem, there is a group of about 30 orphans.

AfricaDay3-11

Most of their mothers have died of AIDS.

AfricaDay3-15

There are a few women who, for no pay, take care of these children morning to night, including school.

AfricaDay3-13

Many of them have struggled with jiggers they get through their feet.

AfricaDay3-31

Our friend Martin, with the beginning support of Global Hope, has helped the children get healthy from the jiggers. These photos actually show much healing and progress, if you’ll believe that.

Each night, the kids tuck away into two rooms in a cement house. In the mornings, the mats and blankets have to have the urine rinsed out of them and hung to dry.

AfricaDay3-10

They eat twice a day, beans and corn.

AfricaDay3-12

The group relies on donations to keep the “orphanage” running.

AfricaDay3-14

And water is hauled by the kids in yellow plastic jugs from the river a half mile or so away.

AfricaDay3-16

There are lots of fungal infections in Gem.

AfricaDay3-17

But even more smiles.

AfricaDay3-19

Our group has decided to become partners with this area.

AfricaDay3-20

Currently they are not sponsored.

AfricaDay3-21

Will you help?

AfricaDay3-22

It will be $25 a month.

AfricaDay3-23

That will provide education, food, water and….almost even better….an opportunity for the girls and young women in this area to get out of the sex industry and into better and safer income generating activities

AfricaDay3-24

Sometime soon, Kaylin and I will open up the donations. We need 100 to fully sponsor Gem!

Get ready!
